Richard Krulik is Chief Executive Officer of U.S. Luggage LLC., which has two divisions, Briggs & Riley Travelware and SOLO. Briggs & Riley, a leading luggage brand, offers a variety of innovative, high-performance collections, each aimed at a specific user lifestyle. Formerly known as U.S. Luggage, the SOLO brand of laptop and business cases was launched in 2006 to meet the needs of a savvy new generation of mobile professionals who thrive on the go.
Krulik is passionate about the travel goods industry. His philosophy is deeply rooted and reflective of the principles that guided his grandfather almost 100 years ago when he owned a prestigious luggage and leather goods store in Vienna, Austria. After arriving in the United States in 1940 with his family and what he could carry, his grandfather started the company that Krulik’s father eventually joined and grew further. Krulik got his first inkling of the business at the age of 12 when a product he designed became a successful product in the line for three years.
After finishing his formal education, and working alongside his father for several years, Krulik took the reigns in 1995. Since then, U.S. Luggage LLC has continued its growth through its focus on the needs of the customer and through excellence in product design and service. In 2000, when U.S. Luggage acquired Briggs & Riley Travelware, Krulik transformed the company into an industry leader. He provided more innovations, streamlined the product line, and introduced exciting new styles, all while maintaining the standards set forth when the company was founded.
Under Krulik’s direction, Briggs & Riley continues to be a leader in the specialty luggage category in North America. In 2006 both brands entered the global marketplace and are sold through select retailers.
Dedication and a strong sense of civic responsibility are a large part of Krulik’s business and personal life. He devotes a significant part of his time and energy to giving back to the community. Krulik’s desire to help others is something that is very important to him and his family. The Krulik family is involved with many charities including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, The American Red Cross, The American Heart Association, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation among others. He is also President of the Board of Trustees of his children’s school.
In addition to his MBA from Columbia University, Krulik earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Rochester. He recently fulfilled a long time dream of getting his pilot’s license. He grew up on Long Island, and is married with two children. His 13-year-old daughter designed her first product in 2006.
